Professional Standards & Ethics

Serenique Counselling

Your safety, wellbeing and trust are at the heart of my practice. I am committed to providing counselling that is safe, ethical, respectful and professional at all times.

This page outlines the standards and principles that guide my work and what you can expect from me as your counsellor.

Professional Membership

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in accordance with their Ethical Framework and Commitment to Clients.

This framework sets out clear standards for safe, competent and ethical counselling practice and helps protect clients’ rights and wellbeing.

My Professional Commitments

When working with you, I will:

  • Treat you with respect, dignity and empathy
  • Provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space
  • Work collaboratively and at your pace
  • Be honest and transparent about my approach
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries
  • Work within my level of training and competence
  • Seek supervision and additional support when needed
  • Continue developing my skills through ongoing training

Qualifications and Training

I am appropriately trained and qualified to practice as a counsellor and engage in continuing professional development (CPD) to ensure my knowledge and skills remain current.

This includes regular safeguarding, risk management and trauma-informed practice training.

Supervision

I attend regular clinical supervision with an experienced supervisor.

Supervision is a professional requirement that supports safe and effective practice. It allows me to reflect on my work, maintain high standards of care and ensure you receive the best possible support.

Client confidentiality is always maintained within supervision.

Insurance and Safety

For your protection and mine, I hold appropriate professional liability insurance.

I also hold an enhanced DBS check and follow safeguarding procedures to promote the safety of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Ethical Practice

I am committed to practising in a way that is:

  • ethical and accountable
  • culturally sensitive and inclusive
  • trauma-informed
  • non-discriminatory
  • respectful of diversity and individual identity

I will never exploit the therapeutic relationship for personal, financial or professional gain.

Feedback and Concerns

Your feedback is always welcome.

If something doesn’t feel right or you have a concern about my practice, I encourage you to speak with me directly. You can also refer to the Complaints section within the Working Agreement for further options.

Ongoing Commitment

Maintaining high professional and ethical standards is an ongoing process. I regularly review my practice to ensure I continue to provide a safe, effective and supportive service for all clients.
